Spring Garden Prep | I'm NOT Loving this Idea...
I didn’t get to watch yet but I just know from the 38 seconds I’ve seen that I’m going to, so liking and will watch later. 😊
Great information thank you for sharing! These tips were helpful! 😊👍❤️ I hear you on the sugar…I never want to add all that either lol!
My zucchini are done, I was winning the battle against the squash bugs, but then the vine borers got them 😭. I’m thinking about trying a late summer zucchini crop just to see if I have better luck.
I have the most trouble with squash bugs. I haven't found anything yet that works against them! I'm in southeast Oklahoma. I heard to plant radish with the squash seed, but that didn't work for me.
The dull stem hint!!! Brilliant!! Thank you!!
I spray my plants with a soapy water solution and peppermint oil. This has killed many bugs and deter many others even ear wigs. I use one tablespoon of castile soap (I don't like the smell of Dawn and then I add 10 drops of pure peppermint essential oil. I have sprayed ear wigs and come back a half hour later to find them dead.
Hi Rachel. I just posted a Costco new arrivals video and they have Le Parfait jars right now! Made me think of you. 😊❤
Saw a little black bug with a orange stripe width wise across it's body around my beans and a lime green aphid looking thing. My beans leaves look horrid. Any idea's y'all.
Thanks for the tip on the vine borers. Always a problem in central NC. I had been wrapping in tin foil but your solution is better.
Grasshoppers tips on management! I hate chemicals but have used seven and and granule but still have them bad.
I agree if it comes from the garden it has to be healthy 😉
Earwigs! Tried everything but physically squashing them works. Moths and their eggs and larvae. Dawn soap combo works.
We have those hammerhead monster worms now in my area
In the past I've used DE on mine, but they keep coming back after I clear them out. I'm pulling them off my plants 3 times a day. (I feed them to my chickens as well). I planted a few varieties and I'd say the one I rarely find any bugs on is the Viking Purple potato. I read somewhere planting beans with potatoes keeps the potato beetle away so I've planted some with my potatoes as an experiment and they are just starting to come up, so we will see how that goes. I'm thinking of covering my potatoes next year with insect netting just like I do Cabbage. It's too late this year as the bugs are already here and potatoes don't need to be pollinated so I think covering them may be the best way to save the potatoes.
Pure Pyrethrin is organic and will get rid of potato beetles, cucumber beetles, etc. It is what I use because I’m disabled and can’t pick off beetles by hand.
Thank you for sharing. I'll definitely be making this.
I carry a barbeque torch with me to fry the squash bug eggs. I wrapped my vines in alfoil. Don't know if it will work.
I was keeping my potatoes outside of the garden until this yr. Cucumber beetles are yellow & blk strips, and they are tiny
I actually use need, just putting a splash in jar of wate, leave right in the bed, and then spray the plant, We've had alot of rain, but I'm thinking putting DE ON THEM too seems to be helping some
The cucumbers. Beetles are so small that's what makes me crazy, they fly right before I go to grab them
I am in the mountains of NC and have dealt with my potato beetles by paying grandson to collect them in soapy water. He ERADICATED all of them within a week!!
I'm retired, and I swear I work more and do more now. I try to have time to work on my quilting hobby. But at least I keep myself busy. Squash bugs come out of nowhere. Hornworns on tomatoes. Pick the worms off, they feel real strange, look pretty except their heads. ❤😂
Grasshoppers in central California
something is eating the flowers on my potato plants which is making the plants starting to die, bit I cannot find a bug at all, I have groundhogs eating my green beans but I do not think they eat any nightshade plants, I'm totally confused on what it is.
Pacific Northwest - Flea Beetle - Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth, Slugs - Cheap Beer Baths, Aphids - Neem Oil White moths - row covers, inspection and manual removal Rabbits - Fake Snakes Moles - Manual traps Birds - strawberries - painted rocks (placed prior to ripe strawberries), Blueberries - covers
Oh my, we have a problem with Japanese beetles, we've tried the soapy water, but we had way too many, so this year we are trying the neem oil and we are hoping it works. I've also tried planting flowers and plants that they say will deter them, I'm not sure if that's working.
Great tip!
This year I don't seem to have many pests, yet. Usually around this time my plants are over taken with flea beetles and I've only had to kill 1 or 2 worms on my kale. Leaf miners are pretty mild too, so far. The only real terror I have is a chipmunk and her baby that also enjoy gardening and plant their sunflower seeds everywhere! 😂❤🌱🐿
I have slugs and when it’s wet it’s worse We go slugging at night and early morning Slugo doesn’t help enough
Squash bugs!!!! They are horrible! I have a hand held tint vacuum I suck them off with and I dislodge the eggs off of the leaves. Also tato and tobacco horn worms in the tomatoes. I had those invade this year. They are easy to spot with a black light flashlight at night. Works great! They will eat a whole tomato in one night!
hornworms or tomato worm will eat the flowers off your tomato plants. they glow in black light that makes them easier to find. but they are easy to keep away by interplanting dill and basil among your tomato plants. which, really, how can you go wrong!?
I loath the squash bug cong.
It’s ridiculous here in the northeast. Bugs we’ve never seen before
those bugs in my country are called "dorifora", they attack mostly potatoes and eggplants. I use BT during the larvae phase and spinosad during the adult phase
I'm in Michigan also and a week ago I found the same potato bug as you it started on one plant I caught them quick put them in the soapy water and then sprinkled a little diatomaceous earth took care of them
Each-can I freeze dry the brassica leaves and others to make my own greens powder for smoothies? Like my own Ag2🫣🙂↔️😏😀
you using a whip is causing all that foam
adding butter is a safe method
First year with a garden in a Long time. There are nondescript brown beetles everywhere. No spots, flat brown color, smaller than Japanese beetles. They are eating my peppers and squash and my flowers, especially the shasta and montauk daisies. I've collected a couple hundred or more the last 3 nights in jars with hot soapy water.
Awesome recipe to add to my pantry. Got a grand daughter going to college in August and she loves ranch dressing this will be great for her apartment. ❤😊Thank you.
Horn worms are the pest down south. I go out in the evening with a black light I got on Amazon and hunt them on my tomato plants. They glow when the black light shines on them. Makes great treats for my chickens!
Olive Oil is one of the number One counterfeited food items, i watched a documentary and it’s huge business running fake Olive Oil . There is very strict regulations for actual Oilive oil, if it’s blended it’s not true Oilive oil .
Something's eating my leaves of peas and roses. I just sprinkled some diatomaceous earth, but I don't know if it's working or not. Too soon to tell. :/ Somethings eating the seedling brassicas I've made too. Definitely going to try that tape trick with the squash!
Beer in a dish in gardens works well too
So if the presto did not complete the process, what do you do with those beans? Refrigerate? Reprocess?
Slugs have been a menace this year. I have resorted to sluggo. Our potato beetles look different but do the same damage. Ours are cream colored with black stripes. I read somewhere that beans around your potatoes protects them. Doing an experiment this year to see if it works.
Only bug I have so far are red leaf footed nymphs on my cucumbers which show up out of no where as I check my plants 3 times a day. They never appear as just one red bug but dozens of them all grouped together planning their attack. They will scatter if you start spraying them so I just squish them as quick as I can. Have dealt with horn and cabbage worms in the past but it is always something.
We use Spinosad organic insect spray on potatoes it will kill the potato beetles. Also, try wood ashes at the base of squash plants for squash bugs and remove any mulch they hide under it.
My sister and I juiced and canned 14 half pints of mulberry jelly this past weekend and it is sooooo good!
Pennsylvania gal here. Cucumber beetles have been awful for me. I have replanted my cucumbers 3x’s. I just hit my cucumbers that are just getting true leaves with diatomaceous earth tonight. The cucumber beetles were flying away like mad. Hope they stay away!
